Growing up, church was sort of a way of life for me and my family.  I was baptized at 14 years of the age.  Throughout grade school and high school, I attended church pretty regularly.  My church activities, however, were second to basketball.  The more my skills improved, the more confident I felt about myself.  I loved the game, and it was definitely the first priority of my life.

In 1997, I received a scholarship to play basketball at Emory University in Atlanta.  While there, I became so busy with getting my degree and playing ball that I lost touch with the church community.

After I graduated from college, I accepted the assistant coaching position with the Lady Dogs in the summer of 1999.  Within a few months of my arrival to UGA, I entered into a dating relationship with someone, however, after a short period of time, I discovered that it wasn’t going to work out.  I became very discouraged and finally sought some direction in a local church in Athens.

Only after being completely broken did I realized that perhaps I was trying too hard to control my life instead of putting it into God’s hands.  In Matthew 6:33 it says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  I decided that my relationship with Christ needed to become my first priority.

When I made that decision, my life began to change.  In 2003, I met Russ, my husband, while attending an event at my church.  I knew right away when I met him that God had put him in my life.  I think that every young woman desires a godly man; someone who will be the spiritual leader of their home and family.  Russ demonstrates to me his love for the Lord daily.  I am so glad that I put my trust in Christ to direct my life, and I always enjoy sharing my testimony with our players.
